  • How Does Medical Cannabis Work?
Medical cannabis interacts with the body’s own “cannabis” system, called cannabinoid receptors. These are located throughout the body and we produce chemicals, called endocannabinoids, which lock on to those receptors and perform important functions for the body. These include, but are not limited to, pain, mood, inflammation, hunger and bodily movement. The phytocannabinoids contained in the plant cannabis affect the same system, locking on to those same receptors and either triggering or blocking them, depending on how the medication is formulated.
  • Is Cannabis Good For Pain?
The receptors that are linked to neuropathic pain, specifically, are triggered by endocannabinoids. By blocking these receptors with specially formulated phytocannabinoids, we can drastically reduce the sensation of pain in the body. Reduction in stress and anxiety can help with pain, as does reducing the symptoms of other illnesses or diseases. And improved sleep may also occur when pain is reduced from medical cannabis usage. Importantly, medical cannabis is also far less addictive than current pain medication on the market, such as opiates.
  • How Do I Receive My Medication?
Due to the nature of cannabis being a controlled substance, you can't simply walk into a pharmacy to pick up your prescription. This is why the Neuropathic Pain Clinic offer a door-to-door delivery system, with tracked courier, so you never have to leave the comfort of your own home to receive your medication.
  • Isn't Cannabis Illegal?
Since 2018, THC has been legal to prescribe by doctors in the UK. Although the NHS are waiting for more research before they prescribe cannabis for more common conditions, private clinics have been able to prescribe freely. You will be in safe hands, as our clinicians and specialist doctors are all trained in neuropathic pain and the prescription of medical cannabis.
